Download Videos from the Web

Use RealPlayer to record and save on-demand Internet videos with a one-click download button.

RealPlayer's Web Download and Record feature identifies embedded videos on Internet sites such as YouTube, MySpace, or TV station sites (Comedy Central, CNN, etc.). RealPlayer then offers the download button near each video for easy selection. Use the button to quickly download and save the videos directly to My Library's "Downloads & Recordings" category for viewing anytime, on- or off-line.
RealPlayer records the entire video regardless of when you start the download — 2 seconds into it, half-way through it, or even after you reach the end. The download occurs in a separate window and does not require you to manage or monitor the process.
You can repeat this procedure in quick succession to download multiple videos simultaneously. They will download in the background while do others things within RealPlayer or elsewhere on your computer.
This feature works with your web browser even if you don't have RealPlayer currently running.

Download and Record a Web Video to My Library:

1. When you view a video on a web site, the Download This Video button appears just outside the top right edge of the video:

By default, the buttonappears during the first 7 seconds after the page loads, and also whenever you place your cursor over the video display. To change this default setting, open Preferences: Download and Recording.

2. Click the button to begin downloading the video.
3. A separate window, the Download & Recording Manager appears. You may use it to monitor, pause, or stop the download progress; however, you're also free to ignore it as it downloads the video. Because the Download & Recording Manager is handling the download, you may close the video's web page or move on to other videos or web sites.
4. If you like, repeat steps 1 and 2 with other videos while the first is downloading.
5. By default, RealPlayer saves videos to My Library under "Downloads and Recordings." (To change this default location, open Preferences: Download and Recording.)

How to Download Videos with Mozilla Firefox

The best way to download flash files from self-uploaded video sites like this one, or YouTube, Google, Multiply, etc... is to use a browser plugin. It's not a perfect science, but often yields great results in archiving your favorite clips you see on a site like this. So here are the basics.

1. These instructions are for use with Firefox 2.0 browser. If you don't have it, you should! It's multi-platform and is more secure with many more free goodies than IE. You can download it here - Jaq's Shaq is optimized for Firefox.
2. Once you've downloaded and installed the browser, next you need an extension called Video DownloadHelper
Install it then restart the browser.
3. Go to Tools menu, then Add-ons menu. Now you should see the DownloadHelper extension installed. Click the 'Enable' button, then click the red X in the upper right corner to exit the dialog box. Close and restart the browser once more. You should now see a new 3D balls icon to the right of the address bar.
4. When on a page containing flash media (or mp3, jpg, etc... in the options), Right click that icon and find the appropriate file in the list. It's not always named what you might think and may require some user input on your part, but you can see the extenstions .flv, .mp3, .wmv, .mpg, etc...

5. Choose a location on your hard drive to save and presto! This works about 95% of the time in my experience. Some stubborn files require refreshing the page, starting the video or other file playing, then grabbing the download at just the right time before it all caches... tricky sometimes but it usually works!...

3. Select "Settings" under "Browser History" and click on it.
4. Select "View Files"
5. Look for the file "Flash" under 'Name"
6. Right click on the file you want to save "Flash"
7. Click COPY... (Do not close your IE Browser)
8. Go back to your desktop (or folder where you keep your video files) and right click in an empty area, and paste the file to your desktop. Right click on the name of flash file and RENAME the file, giving the proper name and end the name with a .FLV extension (example: video.flv).

Most people don't need anything more than a Web browser and a Macromedia plug-in to watch Flash videos. However, if you want a bit more control over your viewing, this open-source FREEWARE program will do the trick. This player is for Windows users only. You can download it from Download.com

For Mac and PC users alike, there's also Wimpy Desktop FLV Player(FREEWARE)
