"De-styled" is the hottest hairstyle

We just love the hairstyles of former Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham (a.k.a. Posh Spice) and Pop-R&B singer Rihanna! In fact, they have been named by countless celebrity and styling websites as the hairstyle icons for the hottest looks of the season. Their short, stunning dos are a current favorite in salons, with a lot of young women brandishing photos of these two celebrities every time they are asked what cut they want for their hair. In a time when “anything goes” for hairstyles, the sexy “de-styled” or cleverly messed up look particularly for short hair definitely stands out. The general idea of Posh’s style is to stylishly mess up hair to get unstructured, unexpected, yet totally flattering looks. The concept behind Rihanna’s look, meanwhile, is to do strand-by-strand definition and shaping of one’s hair for a refreshing, effortless-looking do. These two women also sometimes layer their hair by fixing it in such a way that it is short on one side and lengthy on the other for that sexy, asymmetrical style. We asked Ara Fernando, professional hairstylist for L’Oreal Professionnel, for some styling tips and product recommendations to achieve the latest style craze when it comes to your crowning glory. She says this style can be done in three easy steps: 1. Wash and dry your hair well before styling. 2. Use a flat iron to define the tips of your hair. Never iron your hair while it is wet, since that’s when it is at its weakest and is prone to breakage.3. Place a small amount of styling crème or lotion on your palm. Ara recommends the L’Oreal Professionnel Play Ball Play Pot line, which are hairstyling crèmes that are so easy to use and would really give you complete control of your hair. Try Play Ball in Beach Crème, their bestseller. Warm it up in your hands to make it work better, then run it through your hair, giving it body and movement. Sculpt and style your hair at will using your fingers; you can be sure your hair will follow. To create volume and achieve the asymmetrical look, part your hair and style it against the usual direction: for instance, if you usually part your hair to the right, comb it the other way. Who says you’ve got to be a pop singer to pull off that sexy, messy do that’s so hot these days?
